Classnotes | UNIX01 | RecentChanges | Preferences We are now going to install the Apache web-server on our system. We will not configure it or set it up (though we will in UNIX02). All we want is a working Apache install.
The name "Apache" actually comes from the web-server's original monicker "A Patchy Web-server".
Install mod-perl and any required Apache packages from the Red Hat 9 CDs. Note that Apache may be packaged as "httpd" and not "apache".
Once the system has been installed, start the web-server (usually issuing a /etc/init.d/httpd start) and browse to http://localhost/ to verify that the web-server is online.
